Health and Safety

The NYC Half Century will continue to follow the New York Forward guidelines on large outdoor events.

Preparation

Getting Started: New or rusty to biking in New York City? Check out our one-stop guide with everything you need to know. Biking in NYC — Transportation Alternatives

Bicycle Repair: Not sure if your bike is in ride-ready shape? Bring it to a local bike shop for a comprehensive tune up. If it’s out of commission, you can always rent a bike from Bike Rent NYC through the NYC Half Century registration page: just sign up at least a week ahead of the ride.

Bike Check: Before you head out, be sure to perform an ABC check on your bicycle: Air, Brakes, Cranks, Cogs and Chains. Make sure all these components are working properly before ride day. For long distance rides, it is especially important not to go by “feel” on tire air pressure. Get a tire gauge and check your tires for the recommended PSI (pounds per square inch).
